Beendigen is continuing to operate by providing shelter to high-risk individuals who are leaving violent and unsafe situations. We are also offering telephone counselling and virtual counselling via Zoom. Our women’s shelter is currently open with protocols in place to protect all individuals who are staying or working there. We have taken necessary precautions to help stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus by restricting access to the shelter of all non-essential workers, visitors and contractors, practicing social distancing and proper hygiene, and have increased cleaning and disinfection processes in the shelter.
Our offices located in Victoriaville Centre, Fort William First Nation, on Luci Court, and on Syndicate Ave remain closed to the public at this time with all groups taking place remotely.
Zoom programming takes place every week. Groups currently running include Prenatal, Postnatal, Community Action Program for Children, Drumming Group, Sacred Circle, Sisters of Grief (Grief Support Group), Anger Management, and Women Living Free From Violence. Please check out our Facebook page or our website calendar for dates and times. Call Maya to register for any of these groups at 632-7899 or if you have any questions.
Social isolation is important in preventing the spread of COVID-19 but the stress of decreased community activities along with work lay-offs and having to stay at home can escalate anxiety and lead to increases in domestic violence. During this challenging time, it is important that we continue to provide services and support. We are still here and able to help you. Call our 24/7 Crisis Line at 346-HELP or Toll-free at 1-888-200-9997. We can provide support, referrals, counselling, and safety planning.
